Diô Viana was born in Santarém, Pará. He studied painting, drawing, and printmaking at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro. He worked as an assistant in the printmaking studio at SESC Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro and attended the printmaking and painting studios at the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts.
 

He holds a diploma in *Métiers d'Art* (Fine Crafts) specializing in printmaking from the École Supérieure Estienne in Paris, France. He taught printmaking at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro from 1993 to 1997. He worked as a master printer for artists such as Fayga Ostrower and Marília Rodrigues, as well as for the Society of Friends of the Castro Maia Museums, among others.

He curated exhibitions for the Alliance Française in Brasília and the Brazil-Mexico Cultural Center in Mexico City; notable among these was "Contemporary Brazilian Printmaking," shown at the Ciudad Juárez Art Museum, IAGO (Graphic Arts Institute of Oaxaca), and the Sebastián Foundation in Mexico City.
 

He has received printmaking awards at Arte Pará and the Orlando Dasilva Printmaking Competition, the first prize at the 9th Brazilian Drawing Salon, and the Grand Prize for painting at the Salon Réalités Nouvelles in France. He has held solo exhibitions at BACI (USA), the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA) in Rio de Janeiro, Casa França-Brasil (Rio de Janeiro), Espaço Sergio Porto (Rio de Janeiro), MAB (Brasília Art Museum), and Galeria Gravura Brasileira (São Paulo), among others.
 

He currently lives and works between France and Rio de Janeiro.
