Visual artist Peter de Brito was born in 1967 in Gastão Vidigal, São Paulo. He holds degrees in Physical Education (Catanduva) and Biology (Votuporanga). He relocated to São Paulo, where he currently lives and works.
He earned a degree in Fine Arts from São Paulo State University (UNESP) in 1997. He has won several awards in group exhibitions, such as the Santo André Art Salon (2000 and 2001) and the 39th Piracicaba Salon (2007). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the 15th Bahia Salon (2008); *Pina_Estação – São Paulo: Metrópole: experiência paulistana* (2017); the São Paulo Cultural Center’s Annual Photography Program (1998); *Quilombo: vida, problemas e aspirações do negro* at Inhotim, Minas Gerais (2022); and *Mãos: 35 anos da Mão Afro-Brasileira* at MAM São Paulo (2023). He was a co-curator of the "Captura da Luz" Photography Fair (2006, 2007, and 2010) and the creator of the initiative *A Presença Negra* (The Black Presence).
Over the past 20 years, he has developed work that gives form to his inquiries and his efforts to find techniques best suited to his artistic vision—techniques capable of expressing the lyricism and sensuality that characterize his artistic thought. His work addresses issues of gender, race, and sexuality.
