Marcus André ©

Marcus André (Rio de Janeiro, 1961) lives and works between Rio and Búzios. He attended courses at the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts between 1978 and 1979, and in 1984, he participated in the exhibition *Como Vai Você, Geração 80?* (How Are You, 80s Generation?). In 1985, he studied printmaking at Parsons The New School for Social Research in New York. Upon returning to Brazil, he won an award at the 13th National Fine Arts Salon and held solo painting exhibitions at Funarte’s Projeto Macunaíma/Espaço Alternativo (Rio de Janeiro), the Centro Cultural São Paulo/Bienal Ibirapuera Pavilion project, and MASP (São Paulo).
He has represented Brazil at biennials in Mexico, Cuba, Ecuador, and Japan. He received acquisition awards for painting from the Brasília Art Museum (DF) and the International Printmaking Exhibition in Curitiba (PR). From 1995 onwards, he was the recipient of several grants: the First RioArte Grant Program (1995–96)—with a selection committee that included critics and professors Heloisa Buarque de Holanda and Ronaldo Britto—as well as the MAC Niterói "Artist-Researcher" grant (1998), the FAPERJ (Research Support Foundation) grant (1998), and a grant from The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc. (New York, 2007).
